Cessna 185 io550 conversion with MT prop

Looking ahead when my 520 is out of time I'd like to consider the io550 option but can't seem to find a conversion using the MT prop. Looks like a few have been done with field approval but does anyone know of a compatible STC or any in the pipeline?
Since all accessories are due for overhaul/replacement at the same time it looks like an opportune time to at least consider the io550 and associated accessories as a replacement.
Anyone done the io550 with a 3 blade MT care to comment also?

I think Beegles in Greeley, Colorado, did one for George Mandes. I don't know who holds the STC.

Thanks, I see elsewhere George was going to compare two 185's with io550's running different props (the Mac vs the MT) but can't find anything else about it from a quick Google search.
Pretty sure George's was field approval, but could be wrong.

Looks like Flight Resource has an STC. Their performance difference was a bit different than Steve Knopp's.

Re: Cessna 185 io550 conversion with MT prop

Resky, thanks for the heads up on Flight Resources recent update, while this wouldn't cover the engine conversion it should cover the prop once conversion is done? I'm guessing anyway i.e a Davis (Bonair) STC should be able to use the MT based on MT's STC - would that be how it works?
PM understood thanks.

Re: Cessna 185 io550 conversion with MT prop

The STC for MT 2 and 3-blade props is held by Flight Resource. The Approved Model List includes C180/182/185/206/207/210 with ANY version of TCM -470, -520 or -550 engine. We have shipped several to Australia and NZ. Most kits to NZ are shipped to an MT shop in Hamilton that will complete the final assembly for you.

Feel free to call or write for any more info.

As listed on the link above, they say unlimited blade and hub life.. yet list TBO as 2400 hrs / 72 months whichever comes first. Is it worth it to have to OH every 6 yrs?

Cessna 185 io550 conversion with MT prop

Thanks John, I already have the MT sitting in Hamilton now so was just exploring options when it comes time for engine OH.
With regards to OH time on the prop akavidflyer the MT is much the same as any other prop with calendar time, which is only really an issue for Part 135 ops. As I understand it calendar time on props for Part 91 commercial or Private ops is not required.

So I guess what the deal is, fit the io550 under a current STC and use the MT under their STC which includes the 550, simple as that? Sounds a bit too easy :-)
