Cessna Lands on Freeway.....Then Disappears!!

Last week we had a plane run out of gas, 41 minutes into its flight, and land on the freeway. This is the comical follow-on story. Watch the video:

Hey Tim (qmdv) why's your brother out here pullin' stunts like this???

Tell him UHP Troopers don't have a sense of humor like the Nevada Troopers. LMAO

Reckless endangerment? I doubt that, it would not be hard to fly out of there at midnight with a buddy watching traffic and a couple of radios. But what was he thinking? Not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

What is with Utah. Nevada Troopers just stopped trafic and let me take off last August. They must have figured that waws the easiest way to get it done.

I think that Nevada is the best state. Baron wasteland is what jomac thinks.

FAA to owner of plane: "Okay, we want your pilot certificate number, and we are coming to talk to you about taking off on a freeway"

Owner of plane: "Whoa!! My plane is back on the airport???? Dang, I wonder who flew it here? Boy, I sure hope you guys find that law breaker before he hurts someone....."

Since the kid is pouring gas in the tanks during the video, ya gotta wonder why the state patrol didn't kinda suspect something there...

You know, I could never be a cop/trooper because I cut people too much slack. This pilot already has to face the music with the Fed's so....stop traffic for 10 minutes and send the owner on his way in the plane. No drama.

Nevada does seem to have that "wild west" spirit still and I like that.

I think it is an incident as far a FAA is concerned. But what state law did he break?

Tim,

If the state troopers say what he did was careless, the FAA you can bet will apply the careless and reckless FAR.

The only salvation is "prove that it twas me who moved the plane". Have a nice day.

Looks like the troopers were not there when the plane departed. If it departed at arround 2 AM, the trafic on I-80 in that area is almost non existent.

If he had 41 minuts of fuel on board as reported, then I would say that is careless.

I heard tonight my suspicions were correct.

If there had been some civil negotiations the Highway Patrol would have most likely stopped traffic and made for a good public relations move.

Instead the ole my pee pee is bigger than yours, turns into a fiasco

The catch all is reckless, They should have used that line on Bill Clinton

I think the aircraft owner has a long row to hoe. The scuttlebutt 'round here is he was renting illegally, the plane was marginally airworthy and he proceeded to add fuel, remove documents, install items??? before the FAA became privy to the details. They will now become intimately privy.

The UHP/County will likely charge him with a few moderate offenses.

The young 21yr. old "renter" who appeared to relish in the hero-lands-the-plane-against-all-odds spotlight will get to explain empty tanks 41 minutes into the flight to the Feds as well.

Theres one born everyday.

You might not get it, but young Sky King and the airplane owner are gonna get it. What a couple of dumbshits.

As QMDV can tell you, and seeing it myself up close and personal, most highway patrol guys will bend over backwards to get a "fixed" airplane flown off their freeway. Not necessarily to make it nice and easy for the pilot, but to make it easy for them...

30 seconds for a taxi onto the road and take-off, versus hours of sitting around doing traffic control while mechanics screw with pulling wings, loading trailer, curious onlookers, and the whole mess. A little bit of talking nice and BSing will go a long ways in that situation.

Not a thing or person was hurt or scratched.... Give him a "Damn It, don't do it again", then forget it and save some taxpayer dollars... I guarantee ya he will have more fuel next time.

Nevada boys could not have been nicer. Would have hated to see what they would have been like if they were pissed at me.

Change of venue to Austin. :D :D :D
