Re: Gravelly Valley, Friday May 3rd

We were just planning on Friday night but we could switch it to Saturday night if that works better for people. I was also thinking of maybe heading up into the Sierras instead to get out of the heat since its going to be in the 90s this weekend. Maybe Alpine?

Re: Gravelly Valley, Friday May 3rd

If you guys want to stay over Sa night, I know several of the 701's and 750's from the QSP open house in Cloverdale would like to show up for a bit of a meet & greet Sun if not Sa night.

We (Terri, Kellie the Dog & I) can make Friday or Saturday.
Saturday may be a little easier....It eliminates the issues of trying to leave the office early.
Gravelly or Alpine would work for us.

I can only make Friday night. I'm planning on camping and then flying down to Cloverdale for the Open House and lunch.

Re: Change of plans: ALPINE Friday May 3rd

Alpine is a great place to camp. Lots of stars and most of the time very quiet. There has been good fishing at times in the lake just to the NW. Easy walk down a paved road. There is a good campground on the SW corner of the lake (water, improved camp sites and restrooms). About a 1/2 to a 3/4 mile walk. At the airport no water, improved campsites nor restrooms ( I always preferred the airport though).

There is a trail going from the SW side of the airport down to the river (which is to the S and SE). Only about an easy 3/8 mile hike. This is a trophy fishing part of the Carson River. Catch and release, artificial lures or flies with single barbless hooks only. I have always done well fishing there.

I am sorry I will not be able to get there this weekend (committed to helping wife on a volunteer project). I know you will like this spot.

Yogi came by for a visit last time I camped at the airport. Keep an eye open. It was right at nightfall.
I'm in Anchorage for the "Show", so can't make it.
Have fun.

Big build-up down to the south from Reno, probably right over Alpine County.

Most likely a good call.

Was planning to join in at Alpine....until this afternoon.

Not going to make Gravely....have a great camp out!

I was down that way a few hours ago. Not too bad. All the Thunder Bumpers are southeast a bit.

Here's some pictures from the Gravelly trip, we had a good time.

There was a herd of at least 50 elk that showed up right after sunset, they were still there when I woke up at 6am
