Charlie Down Under

Curious how long that airstrip is--
the camera perspective makes it look really short.

The shortness is less of issue than the steepness of climb out. Is there more unused vertical space available or could the strip be oriented for down drainage egress? It may be fine and the camera angle making it look dangerous. Is the engine O-300 Continental? Does he turn down drainage after overflying the camera?
