Cheap digital outside temp gauge

I found out about these while researching my E-bike conversion I'm doing on the Montague. It's suggested if trail riding to get one of these and insert the probe in the motor casing so you can keep an eye on the inner temps. Mine arrived before the bike, and on a whim I taped the probe outside and ran the display inside and went flying. I have NEVER had an out air temp gauge before.....it was fascinating to watch the range of temps I flew through. For instance, it was 14 degrees up 100', once landed it was 7, interesting. You can't beat the price and it doesn't weigh anything. I'm going to order a few in for my rigs that don't have out air (all of them), handy for knowing the road conditions.

I have never done this, but was curious if anyone out there has ever used a Non-Contact Laser Infrared Thermometer to check or double confirm OAT. I have bought several at Harbor Freight for 19 dollars on sale. Sears, Home Depot, etc all sell them for 20 - 30 dollars, Not sure how accurate they are or how well they would work in flight say shining it out through a closed plexiglass window at a strut to get OAT. Anyone done that?

I don't think it would work through the plexiglass. Might have to open a window.

Speaking of cheap ebay gauges, I installed one of these on a whim, to back up my analog tach in the S7. I was surprised at how well it worked, rock solid and is now my primary tach, The hour meter also tracks the hobbs exactly.

@ Poulette

Just curious if you have ever changed the battery and if so did the Hobbs data go away ?

I'm going to buy a few of these, I mean for 10 bucks it's a steal, and will mount one on my zero turn mower.

No never changed the battery, but you're probably right, it will erase all the data. .That doesn't matter to me since I have a regular panel mounted hobbs as the primary hour meter. For the price, the battery is probably most of the price of the tac so I plan on just replacing the whole unit when the time comes.
