Cheap water bag

I think some have used these for fuel, I sure wouldn't until I tested the hell out of it, but good for water for sure. I am NOT saying this could be used for fuel! I have paid big bucks for my NAUTA fuel bladder (used it just yesterday to get 7 gallons of mogas in Bryce, all I needed to get home, along with the fuel I already had onboard) and will stick with it, it's cap does not ever leak unlike my two ABW fuel bags. I still use the the ABW ones, and really like them for hauling fuel to the plane, keeping them upright. I never carry them with fuel in them in the plane, I just keep them upright.

Re: Cheap water bag

Had a half dozen of them. They never leaked or had a bad time with fuel, but they have a bastard thread on them which makes figuring out a nozzle system like the ABW ones have an exercise in patience and creativity. I gave them away when I bought the ABW ones. After having an ABW one split at the seam (just think about the ramifications there....) I gave them away too.... If I ever buy another bag it will be Nauta... big if

Re: Cheap water bag

I've used them for fuel for years, I've had 10 of them in the trunk of a rental car shuttling fuel while on floats and not a leak, and never anything in the fuel. I have a 18 inch hose that I cut at our little hardware store here that fits snugly in and lets me rest the bladder on the wing and re-fuel the plane.

They work great for fuel. I have 6 of them.
Take the cap off and throw it away, then get a 3/4" Copper female adapter scuff and JB weld in the plastic neck. Now you screw on a ball valve and a short piece of hose. You can fill with a fill rite fuel nozzle and lay it on the wing to drain into the wing tanks. :D

Re: Cheap water bag

I use the Bushwheel bags with their spout. I don't transport gas in the plane because of the potential for in flight problems, but I like them for hauling gas from a local mogas pump to the plane when I am away for home. They are sturdy and stow easily. Actually would like a couple more if anyone is unhappy or doesn't trust theirs.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Wow, others have leaking ABW bags...I'm shocked. When my pard called them about his, he was told not to put MOGAS in them and they wouldn't leak. Our little Rotax engines don't like 100LL so he parked them. I'll see what he did with them, maybe someone else can use them.

Re: Cheap water bag

gb, Thanks for bring that up...the compatability of using these with mogas. From what I understood, that seemed to be the problem with the ABW bags, only good if used with 100LL. I may have to try the one's CG recommends since I know he uses mogas.

Re: Cheap water bag

My BushBags from ABW have hauled nothing BUT mogas, (with E-10 mostly, as I usually only use them when on a XC) and even some diesel.

To be clear, the bags themselves have never leaked, just the spouts and a seep out the caps, just enough to never carry fuel in them unless I keep the caps upright, which is easy enough and still allows me to get great use out of them. The Nauta fuel bladder is the only thing I trust filled in the plane, laying down, and why I am able to use it as a ferry tank, with a resultant 9-10 hour range. Less landings to get fuel means less risk, and I really don't feel any more at risk with the Nauta inside then I do with the wing tank inches from my head, in for a dollar, in for a dime.

One of my old hang gliding buddies, who has never respected me (as much) as a pilot since I went over to the dark side (powered) and I kid each other about the challenge, or lack of, flying powered. I mentioned once to him, "when's the last time you launched and had to worry about burning to death. I do every time." That shut him up for a bit.

Re: Cheap water bag

Got my water bag, appears to be brand new and real high quality. I took it this weekend to Copper Basin and it will change my previous hauling of empty 1/2 gallon salsa jugs and also a SolarShower. Now with this thing, I have a water heater and a water carrier for other purposes all in one, and like a ABW bag (and unlike the salsa jugs) it of course takes up only the room it needs when in use. Seems like the best deal camping related since the two Air Lanterns I bought last year. It's nice when things get smaller, cheaper, work better, and cost less, all at the same time.
