Cheapest easiest ADSB out for experimental?

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Several folks I talked to before I bought mine cautioned me that since it's a "repeater" UAT system it's constantly pinging your transponder - and with the older ones like my ancient king transponder are not accustomed to being pinged once or twice a second and it will cause them to prematurely fail.

It has been my understanding that all of uAvionix's UAT solutions (including the TailBeacon) do not actually "ping" the transponder, but instead, they "listen" to the transponder's response to obtain the squitter data. Is my understanding incorrect?

On the uAvionix web site, one of their FAQ responses specifically states "...the Beacon series adds zero workload to your existing transponder and works great with older analog transponders."

I switched my old knob txp to a 327 in about an hour of tray swap and re-pin connector. Affordable and easy.

Where did you buy yours and did it include a tray? 8130 or did you just trust that it will work? I wanna make sure it's future proof and will talk to the G3 if and when I go that route.

I was just repeating what I was told by the avionics tech who did my xponder inspection. I will do some more digging - I certainly hope that's the case. I'm only 2 weeks into it.

Pretty sure that's correct.
When I programmed my Tailbeacon (using the app),
I had to hit the ident button to get it to send out a 1200 code.

I just sold a GTX327 for a buddy who upgraded to a new all-in-one GTX345.
"Working when removed", it sold for $500 including tray & manual.
So they're out there.
However, I don't know if a GTX327 will talk to a G3-- the 327 came out way earlier so may not have the capability.

I got it from a local BCP friend and it did include a tray. I trusted his word that it worked when removed. They are constantly being listed on barnstormers and ebay.

They do talk to G3X's if that's the hardware you're referring to by G3
