It has been my understanding that all of uAvionix's UAT solutions (including the TailBeacon) do not actually "ping" the transponder, but instead, they "listen" to the transponder's response to obtain the squitter data. Is my understanding incorrect?
On the uAvionix web site, one of their FAQ responses specifically states "...the Beacon series adds zero workload to your existing transponder and works great with older analog transponders."
