Cheat Island Fly-in in the AOPA Sweeps 170 (2024)
Links to general aviation backcountry flying-oriented videos. It can be yours or stuff you find on the internet. Please no airline/military.
Finally put together some footage from when I flew the AOPA Sweeps 170 to Cheat River airstrip on Cheat Island and hit some mountain top strips. The first half shows me flying in and attending the memorial service for Richard McSpadden (who used to fly his super cub in to Cheat). The second half shows us hitting a few strips. Dave Stoots let me borrow the plane for a few months and has since sold it to the next owner

Until watching this video, I didn't realize that another airstrip is just up the hill from the one on the river. Looks new and wondering if an individual just made it for more local fun?

When you go talk to the owner Dave Graybill... one is his also, and the other is his neighbors they are both right there, you just need to pick a low traffic time to maneuver around the canyon. Any other time of the year its not a problem, but during the fly-ins you just want to plan it out not to cause chaos.
