Check The Gear! Amphib on its back in Florida

Check it - Say it out loud. Gear up for Water.

Personally, I was chanting it on downwind, base and final every time I was conducting water operations.

Fortunately, scrapes and bruised pride was the only injury today.

and of course, there has to be a douche bag put in the comments that its "another build it yourself plane" Has nothing to do with who built it, factory or homebuilt if he forgot to pull the gear up.. But the public perception is that the homebuilts are more dangerous and should be outlawed.

With clothing, the opposite of NOMEX is polypro (polypropylene cloth and fleece).

I usually watch amphibs when they take off to see if they remember to hoist the gear. Some don't. One local C185 amphib turned turtle in the Columbia River a few years ago from a gear-down landing, about a year ago I watched him takeoff from my airport & fly off with the gear down. Had a report later that he flew by a nearby airpark with it still down. Slow learner I guess. Landed on his home strip I guess so it was OK, but that seems like a bad habit to get into if you don't wanna get bit in the ass some day.

If on amphibs ,,,, for me , gear comes up after takeoff. Nothing good can come your way by leaving it down. If the gear is not working correctly and needs to stay down , so be it . Hopefully in your mind you are a land plane and you are on your way to a hard surface to get it fixed.
