Does anybody have an update on the Chicken Strip ? Last info I can find is it is closed due to a washout. With the controversy over the enviro-wackos wanting to close it and let it "return to nature" I'm wondering if the "washout" might be a convenient way of keeping it closed.
The chicken strip has a pretty colorful history including one story of Charles Manson rolling boulders onto the strip to prevent people from landing. I guess he believed the hot springs to be some sort of spiritual oasis. From what I hear the hot springs are still "clothing optional" (in my case I'm sure they would insist on "clothing mandatory"

)

Mark,
I enjoyed all your airstrip additions to the forum...will add them to the upcoming airstrip database when it's finished.
So what makes the Chicken Strip so interesting, from a flying perspective. I think I saw a shot of it in the Out There Flying video.

So where is the Chicken Strip? (and don't tell me the friozen food dept at the supermarket!

)
Judging from the Manson comment, I assume it must be in the SoCalif/Nevada/Arizona area?

Saline Valley portion of Death Valley National Park. It is near the hot springs which are a big draw. As I said, clothing is optional (for the springs not the airstrip

)which might be a bit weird. It has a bit of mystique due to some of the stories etc. I have not been there,,, yet. It is on my list of airstrips I want to visit. I'll provide some pictures and text when I'm able to get in there.
