I did the drive a couple years ago when we all went to fix the strip the last time. If it's graded, maybe 2 hours once you got off the pavement. But, I think it took 2.5 hours when I drove on that road. It was graded only about a 1/4 way down when I was there. To me, it's an awesome drive! Beautiful scenery. Make sure you have at least one good spare tire!

Great Snow Pictures.

I have gotten some feed back from the NPS and Lizard Lee. The strip condition is GOOD and the weather is looking GREAT. :D So it should be a fun weekend. With the strip only needing basic maintenance we should finish up Saturday afternoon. I was going to go in on Friday and planning on coming out on Sunday. I’ve heard from a few folks so I expect a nice group. Be sure and bring your own rakes and shovels as I only have a few.

Any questions feel free to e-mail or call.

Are you driving or flying? I'd love to join you all again. But, I've had other pans for this weekend for a while now. Hope you all have safe travels!

Thanks for the info. We are planning to land in Bishop and take a Jeep in. Hope we can make it work. Would love to help out in preserving such a unique place.

Why would you drive when you could fly? It's minutes by air hours by car.

Because driving you can get drunk as a monkey and it is all good.....well, tell MADD gets you by the $alls.

A great weekend was had by all. :D 14-planes showed up and 20 Volunteers for maintenance on the Chicken Strip. Dave’s Margaritas were GREAT along with the chips and salsa. A new wind sock was installed and three gallons of white paint was applied to the rocks lining the strip along with some raking and leveling. The sunsets were beautiful and the sound of coyotes and burros put you to sleep, will maybe not everybody.

Thanks to all that came out and helped.

It's nice to see you had a good turn out! Now I don't feel bad for not being able to make it down there.

Re: Chicken Strip Work Party Feb 23/24

Thanks to all for the work at Chicken Strip. We had a great time there last weekend.

MC, Thanks for the tip. The breakfast at Alabama Hills restaurant in Lone Pine was the best, Del gave us a ride into town and we walked back to the airport.

... Del, the airport manager can give you a lift into town which is only about a mile walk anyway. He has a couple of bikes, too, I think.
