Re: CHT Gauge

A large portion of your cost with CHT monitoring is the INSTALLATION cost.
It'd make a lot more sense to install a engine monitor.

Re: CHT Gauge

I ordered up an Insight G1 engine monitor. Seems like a great choice.

Re: CHT Gauge

Good choice. Choose your mounting spot carefully though, the placement of the knobs on the left of the instrument can make it a pain to scroll through pages cause your hand obscures the screen.. Apart from the smallish screen that's my only real complaint

I've installed one G3 with the vibe analysis in an F33A, very nice unit. Skydive, if you have a G3 already the vibe option can be retrofitted

Insight customer support is great and there's a continual stream of software updates loadable via the SD card. The units just keep getting better, some of the update have made a noticeable difference

I've also fitted several JPI EDM 730's in Cessna twins, these are fantastic with much bigger screens than the G3. But if I had the $$ or desire to fit one to my aircraft I think I'd go with a G4..

One thing I notice is the engines never seem to run as well after fitting these monitors, all of a sudden you can see all the little differences between individual cylinders etc that have always been there but the factory gauges didn't show! Most engines ran TBO just fine without all this additional info

Re: CHT Gauge

Once the Graphic engine monitors came out I installed one in my 182. I was all excited and flying Wright powered DC-3s as a FO / Mech and told the owner / Captain "You should put 2 9 cyl EDM 700s in here" He said " Im freaking out with one CHT EGT per engine, I would really freak out with 9 each!".
