Chuckar around Independence

Got invited to join some folks near Independence CA for the upcoming chuckar opener :P
Not super familiar with that area nor a whole lot of experience at Chuckars. Any suggestions, must do's or don'ts?

Thanks in advance, Rob

Chucker

Take a couple of frizbees with you.

Sounds silly but Chucker love to run and they can run uphill a hell of a lot faster than a man can. They freqently flush well out of range and or just run away from you. You can sail a frizbee out over thier heads and they will stop right where they are and hunker down. This gives you time to run up on them and get into range. Take an oxy bottle and have fun.

Chukar: Vicious, malicious, sadistic small bird, introduced to this country to induce leg cramps and heavy breathing in upland game bird hunters.

Nasty little buggers, but lots of fun. If you're taking a dog, it needs to be in shape, same for you.

Have fun,

Thanks for the replies, the frisbee thing sounds interesting! I understand it does not compare to our quail here in the desert? Something about seperating the boys from the men (upland game wise....)

I discovered chukkar hunting last year and loved it. My dog and I both almost died falling off of cliffs. Take a hawk screamer whistle with you when you see them, blow (if you can breath). They will hesitate a bit.
Tasty little bugers to.
