Re: Clarity Aloft in ear headset

I have used the clarity aloft Pro for the last 6 years, and the military plugs for the last 7.

My Wife thinks it's the best headset she has ever used. We regularly fly 70-100 hours a year.

The ear plugs are not a problem for me or her, but getting the right sized ear plug (not expensive) is important for long flights.

I regularly make trips of 4-10 yours, and the light weight is great. My wife agrees, and also didn't like headsets because they always got cought up in her hair. This does not.

The sound quality is really good, and I prefer it to a headset.

The only down side is that if you're doing lots of getting in and out you have to reform the earplugs, so a headset would be easier.

The US military uses this type of system. I have a set of the plugs with the speakers that I put in then wear my helmet over it when I flew AV-8B, T-45, and now the F-5. So the system is durable, I can attest personally.

I have used the David Clark 10-66XL headset in the C-12 for work and it is a great system. But it's heavy and gets old on long flights.

The cost of an ANR headset is very high compared, and I really think that this system is as good and a good deal for the money.

Hope this helps,

Wil

Re: Clarity Aloft in ear headset

I fly almost exclusively with the Quiet Technologies Halo (http://www.quiettechnologies.com/) and love it. I'm used to flying with double ear pro (foamies + headset) so the in ear Halo does not bother me one bit. It is WAY more comfortable than wearing a pair of DC head clamps, especially when it is warm outside. Noise reduction is WAY better than my DCs, even with their hush kit installed...this is in part that there is no seal to disturb by wearing sunglasses with the Halo. Probably not quite as quiet as an ANR set, but pretty damn close. The only time I don't wear the Halo is when I'm bagging strips, shutting down and hopping in and out of the plane a lot in a short period of time...inserting the foam tips ends up slowing me down a little and I hate being left behind.

Highly recommend them! 8)

Thanks,

It looks like the Halo's may be a bit less expensive. Are they as good as Clarity Aloft?

Other that the hassle of putting then in and out is there any other downside? I like the fast that you find them durable, that was a big question mark.

Re: Clarity Aloft in ear headset

I've had mine for about a year now. No issues with durability, although I don't throw them around the cockpit and put them back in their case after every use (unless I'm staying in the same aircraft).

I can't comment on how they compare to the Clarity Aloft, but I am totally satisfied with their performance and will likely pick a pair up for my wife if she'll ever fly with me on a regular basis...but that's another issue... [-X

I get headaches with the head clamps - bothers me because of my glasses too. does anyone have experience with custom ear monitors - made by an audiologist? Like the rock stars have?
