Any hints for cleaning injectors? The manual recommends using an ultrasonic cleaner but if not available to use either acetone, MEK or lacquer thinner. I don't have access to an ultrasonic cleaner and I'm not getting anywhere with acetone. Google says mechanics are using Hoppe's #9?

Hoppes #9 works the best for me. You can drop them right in the Hoppes container and shake the heck out of it as long as there isnt too much space for them to clink around. The hotter the better too. You can get nice little ultrasonic cleaners from amazon or shooting supply stores for pretty cheap.

When I was wrenching on pistons full time,it was always hoppes #9. Let ‘em soak and give them a shot of air. I personally think ultrasonic cleaners are over-rated.

I used to clean mine by letting them soak over night in Hoppe's, worked great. I think the key here is to let them soak for awhile.

Forgive my ignorance, but would a fuel additive designed to clean injectors (Techron) work as a cleaning solvent? Seems like if it works diluted in fuel it should work better straight...maybe?

I use Hoppes #9, in vials, in an ultrasound cleaner. You said you didn't have one, but you can get one from a Harbor Freight equivalent fairly cheap; it's worth it if this is going to be a recurring event. The only mod on the HF ultrasonic cleaner is to RTV the seam where the tub mounts in the chassis.

If you don't have an ultrasonic cleaner you can fake it with a shallow pan full of solvent placed on the work bench near a bench grinder, turn on the grinder and the high rate vibration will act just the same as an ultrasonic cleaner.

Hoppes worked great. These three sat in hoppes for 8hrs above my fireplace.

After soaking I’ll set the bottle next to my bench grinder for a while and see if I can tell a difference.

I don’t really want to buy another tool that I’ll old use once...I’ve don’t that too many times already.
