Cleveland wheels 199-62A on C-180

I am looking to upgrade my wheels on my C180 to Clevelands. Does anyone have info on who has the best prices or has Clevelands on Sale at the moment? I hate to take the hit but it sounds like I need to move to better wheels since I am running 8.50's on three part wheels and I am off pavement %60 of the time. Looking for 199-62A model.

Thx,

Les

AK Bushwheel www.akbushwheel.com stocks wheels and brake assemblies. Of course you could just buy the 10" wheel set. Not sure what the cost difference is? Just picked up my 10" wheels yesterday. Wup and all were very helpful and will look forward to my next trip to the candy store. I don't think you will find any clevelands on the used market unless someone decides they won't need theirs after getting the 10". Mine will stay for use with skis.
Dropped into Hell's Canyon on my way back to Boise. Strips are in good condition. Don't forget Rogersburg isn't open till next month.

A quick Google search shows these prices from several suppliers
for the 199-62A conversion kit:

http://www.airsupplies.com = $1,390.80
http://www.skygeek.com = $1,448.75
http://www.aircraftspruce.com = $1,475.00

Just curious, did you buy your 180 out of Driggs, ID? I think
I looked at your airplane before I bought my '54 180 in California....

Thx for the replys. And yes I bought my 180 from driggs. I have put 140 hours on it since last Jan and loving every minute of it. Just currious why did you not pick it up? Was it the damage history etc?

I didn't pass on it because of the damage history (my '54 was
groundlooped in 1975). It's entirely my fault (I should have asked!)
but I passed on it because of the "undisclosed" (to me) hail damage
on the wings (I dragged my IA all the way to Driggs to look at that
airplane and we were both dissappointed when we saw the tops of the
wings).

Lesson learned: Ask any & all questions before you spend money to go
look at an airplane! (I have a "checklist" of questions to ask now....).

It struck me as a bit odd that whomever rebuilt it did such a nice
job rebuilding the rest of the airplane (it really did look good! I still
have a bunch of pictures of the extensive rebuild), but they elected to
not re-skin the portions of the upper wing panels that had hail damage...

Anyway, I made an offer on it based upon the cost of repairing the hail
damage but that offer wasn't accepted.

I'm also having fun with my 180 (moved up from a 170B a couple
of years ago). I fly my 180 about 125 hours per year.

Looks like by the time I saw the plane the seller posted the hail issue in the add. Unless I am wrong I think its just cosmetic so I don't worry about it. I haven't had any surprises in the past year which is really nice. I have upgraded a lot so it is getting better by the day. New interior, selkirk extended baggage, bas pull bar and enertial reel belts, plug wires, JPI Fuel flow, and just now picked up cleveland six bolt wheels from alaska bush wheels. All around its a great plane.

Thx,

Les

I agree, it was just cosmetic (and like I said, it was a nice airplane!).

That was the 1st 180 I went and looked at right after I sold my 170.
I just got talked out of buying the 1st 180 I looked at... 8)

Mine is fairly stock (only mods are Horner style wing tips and BAS
shoulder harnesses). The airframe had 2000 hours TTSN when I
bought it, but only because it sat for 20+ years as a rebuild project
before it finally flew again!

What was the price for the 199-62A kit via ABW?

Bela you're missing a good thing dinging the hail damage. It makes them fly better. Why do you think a golf ball flies so well?

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!

For what it's worth, for the right price, I would have bought that
Driggs airplane! (it was a nice one, and I had cash-in-hand).

That being said, I'm not complaining about the one I found. There
aren't that many 2000 hour early 180s flying around, and although
I've had to drive some voodoo out of it early on, I couldn't be happier
with the airplane now.... :)

Bela,

In an unrelated topic I need to replace my tie down springs in the top of the struts. Its been a real pain to source these. Any part supplier can only sell batch of ten when I only need two. Any ideas? Know anyone with spares? Let me know.

Thx,

Les

One of my springs is dead, has been ever since I bought it 14 years ago...someone wrapped the tiedown in saran wrap and gooped up the slot with clear silicone...it's been sticking all that time. Just have to remember to push it up in the slot after untying! :D
