Club seating conversion in a PA-32 Cherokee Six
Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?
I have been trying to find the facts on whether or not it is legally possible to convert a Cherokee Six to club seating when it came from the factory with forward facing seats.
I have seen a few older Sixes with club seating, before it was an option from Piper.
Through lots of reading i have heard several conflicting stories...
1) the middle row can simply be turned around.
2) if you can find donor seats (from a later model Cherokee, Lance, or Saratoga) they can be installed with a logbook entry since they are on the same type certificate as pa-32s with club seating
3) it would require a 337 and the work which that entails
#1 seems improbable as the seat belt mounts would need to move.
Any current or former Six owners/drivers have the straight dope on this? If it is possible and seats were aquired, any idea how much work would have to be done for modifications and how difficult it would be to get it approved and 337 filed?

Why do you want club seats? I can’t stand them the middle seats have zero recline to them, I’ve never sat in any that are comfortable. The standard seating is super easy to pop seats out and configure for your needs. As far as legality, if it is offered on your model and in the parts book then it’s a log book entry followed by W&B update.

Do a search for the AOPA sweepstakes giveaway Cherokee 6-260 a few years back. They covered this very subject extensively and did the mod to their sweeps plane. I remember them saying if you wanted club seating it would cost you 10k anyway you sliced it, back then.

Thanks guys. I am not sure if i want club seats just researching possibilities at the moment. I’d like to sit in one to see the difference, seems like a tradeoff as the middle row in the forward facing config doesn’t have much leg room vs. not much recline in the club seat config.
Appreciate the tip on the AOPA writeup I will check that out.
