CO to AZ next week
Not necessarily information about airstrips or airports, but more general info about a greater area or a route of flight.
I've got long weekend, a new plane to play with and a need to move it home......so of course that opens up so many possibilities. Looking for ideas on where to stop, to visit or camp or even motel it along the way.
Starting in NE Colorado and aiming for Tucson, in a general, wandering sort of way.
Finally some fat tires and good short field! Yay!
I'm going to have to get some pix of the new plane and change my little avatar.

I would plow over the divide at milner or cameron pass (near estes park, co) and go down the western slope or the central valley if you are comfortable with the high passes.
What plane are you in?

If you happen through Albuquerque (KAEG) I might be able to find hangar space for you.

I'd slip over to Southeast Utah and follow the Colorado to Page, AZ. Scenery can't be beat

Then you should defiantly hit the western slope - many more backcountry opportunities

Great choice! Check out
www.flycolorado.org for info about Colorado backcountry / recreational opportunities.
Hope to meet you at some of the local backcountry fly-ins this year.
Congrats,
Matt

After lots of talk and no action, I finally acted and bought a beautiful Bearhawk. Today is the official day and I am in DEN going to the plane now. The wx is looking a bit punky so if not today, perhaps I can get out tomorrow and head home.
I am so looking forward to some great adventures and more than anything I'm looking forward to taking my Dad up. The RV is a little difficult to get in and out of and he likes the Bearhawks a lot better anyway.
PS I brought my camping gear with me and sure wouldn't mind dropping into someplace nice along the way back to Tucson. Open to suggestions.

Awesome! Congrats on the Bearhawk!
I know what you mean about looking forward to taking your dad up. My dad instilled the love of flight in me as a kid, and being able to fly him into Oshkosh in my own plane many years later was truly sweet.

Stop by Mack Mesa (10CO) )near Grand Junction and talk to Travis and look at his Bearhawk. 800ft grass strip with a 2600ft paved "extension" to practice. Good camping on the grass and good mountain biking nearby in fruita. Lots of great backcountry strips nearby, several on the secitonal.

Cute way to describe it.
Skagit Airport near here put in a grass strip alongside rwy 22 last year, they refer to it as a "alternate grass landing area". Avoids issues with FAA if they don't call it a runway maybe?
