Flying along the lower Columbia River today checking out some potential beach camping and fishing sites for the upcoming spring salmon season and came across this. Looks like it had been there a while, but I don't have a recollection of seeing it there on previous trips in this area. I always wonder what the story was when I find things like this.

The Columbia Bar is known as the grave yard of the Pacific.

On a related subject, we had a big train derailment in my area a few days ago, cars stacked on top of each other etc. I wanted to fly over and eyeball it but the weather wouldn't allow it. I'm sure it's cleaned up totally now as Union Pacific does not mess around when it comes to keeping traffic flowing, I've heard stories of dozers simply burying valuble spilled freight as it isn't worth messing with compared to the money they lose in revenue, plus their insurance pays for it anyway I guess. Pretty neat being a pilot and being able to fly over scenes like the shipwreck and the best view in the house!
