composit vs reg prop

Took off flying the other evening about an hour before dark and noticed i wasnt alone in the air.Geese and flocks of ducks. My question is which prop would take a bird strike better than the other.I'm running a two blade mt prop .Would a strike knock a blade off or would it take the jolt?By the way i have changed the time s i fly to mid afternoon instead of rush hour of the birds.

I can tell you with certainty that I have taken out a few ducks water skiing and there is no sign of any harm...on the other hand, you take out an eagle like our buddy Dennis hit...your probably f#*^~!

Re: composit vs reg prop

There was a guy who hit a bald eagle with a warp drive prop on his kitfox. A big chunk came through and hit the windshield but didn't break it. Some time later a Seagull went through his prop into cowl, Broke the primer line, started fire. He was able to land safely on a lake bed but the plane burned up.

Warp props are carbon fiber.

Re: composit vs reg prop

Here is a video clip of the required bird impact study to get a prop blade certified. Note this is an MT natural composite prop and the strike resulted in do damage to the prop. I hit a bald eagle with my RV6 wearing an MT prop...went through the prop then hit my wing. No prop damage, but a soccer sized dent in the leading edge of the wing.
