Concrete is a little town on highway 20 (North Cascades Highway) about 35 miles up the Skagit River from the salt water of what most folks would call the north Puget Sound near Mount Vernon. (not actually part of the sound, the north end of that is at Admiralty Inlet adjacent to Port Townsend- but that's another story...) Nice little podunk airport in the shadow of the mountains. With a pretty good mom and pop burger joint just a half-mile or so north, I fly up there to eat somewhat regularly.
Anyway, every year in May they host the Concrete Old-Fashioned Fly-in. Pretty much the first big fly-in of the year, so they generally get a good turn-out. Usually rains sometime over the long weekend on those brave (or foolish) enough to camp over. Being somewhat out in the boonies, I guess official "supervision" is not non-existent and so there are a lot of fly-by's, formation flights, etc while the fly-in is going on. Usually a real good time is had by all, wet or not. Jerry Burr of STOL-contest fame lives nearby and has done some pretty impressive slow-flight demonstrations in his "White Hawk" Cub in the past, too.
