Cougar Creek

Does anyone know about the resurgence of this strip? I know it was used infrequently from the 1960's through the early 80's, mostly by IDFG and USFS. I camped at Mahoney Creek a few days ago and it looks like someone cut the strip back in...? Looked shorter than Lower Loon.

Is it on the Middlde Fork? Maybe we should talk to Chris G about getting it entered in to Shortfield Explorer as details emerge?

Yes, I took this from Mahoney. It's just on the other side of the river.

This. Idaho Fish and game is trying to improve/increase access and they own this place. They are working with Idaho Aeronautics to get it up to snuff and ready for public use. I’ve stopped there a couple times on raft trips. It’s a kinda cool place to wander around.

Re: Cougar Creek

The fish and game owns it,called the cougar ranch. They are reopening it to the public to improve access in frank. An attempt to counter the forest services lack of maintainance and incorrect interpretation of the wilderness act that has resulted in a loss of 80% of our access since the 50’s in the form of unrepaired bridges, trails and historic airstrips. Lack of access is problematic for the fish and game, the local biologist are trying to open more runways in addition to the cougar ranch. We should be helping them all we can if we want to continue flying in the frank. As of right now it’s not on the charts, or officially open, will be when they get the windsock up and some runway end markers in place. If any groups want to volunteer pm me and I can put you in touch with the right person. =D> =D> =D>

That's awesome news! I'm not sure how much slope it has, may have to wait for the official stats before taking the 172 in there. I could always fly into Mahoney and wade over to help though hah!
