Country Squire Airpark - S48

Anyone know the history of this airport? I flew in there today for the first time, reminded me of a ghost town. Looks like it is privately owned but open to the public. Someone put a ton money into this place (looks like a long time ago) and now it almost looks forgotten about and somewhat run down. Looks like a fun place to camp and maybe have some fun with flour bombings and spot landings. I could have drank 2 or 3 beers looking through the huge shop full of equipment and who knows what but it says KEEP OUT.

Re: Country Squire Airpark - S48

I landed in there once to look at an airplane for sale. I was invited to land by the hangar tenant who was selling his airplane. When I landed I was chased down by the owner of the airstrip and bitched out. He said that it was a private runway and I had no right to be there even if his tenant invited me there. Then he wanted a $15.00 landing fee. I told him to go to hell and then his tenant who again invited me to land paid his hangarlord the $15.00! I'll never go back... Hope he goes broke!

(but i'm not bitter)

Owned by retired Portland Fire Captain Art Skipper. I worked with him over the years. He is a ok guy I guess. I don't know why he doesn't put a X out.

Sad deal for Art. His son Art Jr. was killed in a plane he was piloting about 7 years ago. Art Jr. was a absolutely fabulous young man. Had been on the PFD for 3 years I think. Very sad.

Cheers

I read about that accident, sad deal, he was almost home. Sounds like he was quite an athlete.

Re: Country Squire Airpark - S48

I just looked at the chart and it is not listed as private.
Airnav lists it as private, open to the public, with a landing fee.
Looks like I need to pull the books out, I thought all private strips would be identified as privare on a chart?

Yep, Airnav.com has it listed as "Open to the Public" with a landing fee to "Non-Based Aircraft".
