Sea level or close to it? Cold temps? Skinny guy? Little fuel? Knows the plane for sure. =D>

Re: Crazy Takeoff/landing

I checked google earth and measured ~900ft at ~200ft elevation. Airnav says 1075ft but that has to be from house to house.

C-85 with an under pitched prop is what I've heard but can't verify. Also has flaps. Won the plane last year in the Luscombe Win ME raffle.

I guess it wouldn't be too big of a loss for him if he wrecked it into a house then.

Not sure I would want to own either one of those houses with a runway right there.

Re: Crazy Takeoff/landing

what is so crazy about this? He is down and ready to stop using only a bit more than half and is wheels off in about half. Looks like he does a very good job to me.

In the grand scheme of crazy, it doesn't rank very high, BUT: On that takeoff, his options are few should he have a momentary brain fart, or encounter a sudden spot of mixed air. When he does climb out, he does it with authority, but you can tell it's only by virtue of picking up a good amount of speed in ground effect...and then he does not clear the residence by much.

Crazy? Maybe not. He obviously has skills and knows the plane. The challenges are very clear, no surprises. There just isn't much room for error. I'd say the crazy part is how boxed in that strip is by structures.

I agree....the crazy part is when he thought "This looks like a great spot to build an airport!!"

Re: Crazy Takeoff/landing

Rob needs to take this to the Pacific City folks as an example of what REAL airport/neighborhood conflict looks like.

Re: Crazy Takeoff/landing

Maybe I'll start a thread, "How do I Crazy Takeoff/landing?" :D

Seriously, it looks like a skilled pilot in a nice aircraft. Probably not for everybody, but I like it a little better than watching water skipping videos. I think as long as the neighbors can live with it, then great. We need all the airstrips, private and public, that we can get.

Re: Crazy Takeoff/landing

Wow!! Very skilled and brave!

I was thinking. A strip that short, I wonder if having a crop/orchard fan on each end of the runway to help increase headwind?? :-k Not sure how the heck that can work, but that's where the engineers come in. Sure would hate to have something go bad and then fly into the fan. #-o

I dunno........ Just another crazy Pollock idea :D

Might help you get into ground effect but seems then it would be like a windshear loss once you flew out of it.
