Just picked mine up at Northern Lights Avionics (ANC) and watched the first half last night (until the laptop battery died). There's some truly incredible, inspiring, frightening (frightening because you know you'd like to try it) footage in there. I should mention that I've never watched more than a few minutes of BR&LP's, so I can't compare it. I sprung for this video because the locations are close to home, and I like to see shots of the country up here, besides seeing some really exceptional pilots honing their art form.
I must say, I was pleased that it isn't all testosterone-driven. These are not just the monster trucks of the aviating world. Although Loni and friends do some pretty incredible flying, the tone is pretty modest and cautious throughout. Loni even points out that his supercub is not rediculously overpowered, further showing that most of what you see on this video comes down to skill, practice, and very good judgement.
The footage is pretty diverse. There are the amazing landing and takeoff sequences that folks probably are familiar with seeing in BR&LP 1&2. Then there are some pokey sequences of fishing and exploring a falling-down old hunting cabin. These are things I might do myself, but I could pass on watching other people do them. I guess it adds some variety, though. These are followed by an interesting tire-repair sequence, and then the flying gets really impressive, with a few other supercub pilots getting into the mix. Loni guides one of the other pilots through "Habersetzer Flight Academy", which is quite instructional just to watch on dvd. As someone noted here once before, you can glean a lot just pausing and rewinding and studying the control inputs these guys use.
I am looking forward to viewing the rest of this, and then re-viewing the whole shebang several more times, at least. Worth the price of admission, in my opinion.
Enjoy,
