Cubcrafters Lawsuit

This was split from the Soft Field Takeoff Video thread. Seems like a worthy new topic, and I don't want to dilute the accident analysis thread. -Z

Supercubber, by any chance were you out at Cub Crafters 2-3 weeks ago?

There was a write up on Cub Crafters lawsuit against another company, claiming the Piper Aircraft Company paint scheme and lighting bolt trademark belonged to CC and insisting they couldn't be used by anyone else. When in fact CC themselves never secured or bought the trademarks from Piper. Doesn't get any lower than that.

If I had to do business with them in order to fly a Super Cub I would fly a Husky instead.

I also resigned from another flying forum because the administrator climbed into bed with them for their advertising dollars.

So to answer your question, no you didn't see me at CC.

Sorry for the confusion SuperCubber. Your credentials sounded similar to one of their customers I met there. I did not understand the lawsuit either and think that it was a poor choice. Wonder if they may not think the same thing after the fact. Here are my observation after spending a few days there, working with and meeting several of the people. The caliber of the people, work ethic, and (do it right) atmosphere is something I have not encountered before in an operation of that size. It is definitely a case of surrounding yourself with good people. Certainly a model business. Beyond that, from what I discovered, some of the leadership comes from a high moral background that seems to translate to the business. Again, I agree they sinned, but I forgive and support them, as well as the AOPA, EAA, NRA and George Bush.

From what I've read they have a long history of acquiring STC's the same way they are trying to acquire the Piper Trademarks. Their lawsuit seems to suggest a new plateau for them in regards to unethical business practices. Please explain to me how this translates into a "High Moral Background".

To start, as a disclaimer, I am not a bible thumper, nor do I agree with all that the Moral Majority stands for. With that out of the way, what I meant in the "moral" statement was this. I know at least three of the CC hierarchy attended the Moody Bible Institude. No, this does not necessarily mean that they always take the high road. I do think, hope, with that background, that they are probably more likely to head in the right direction. I will stick with my comment about what I saw in Yakima.

so being christian makes you a better pilot, business person or aircraft manufacturer??

Sorry, but it is irrelevant.

I started to say none of the above, just a better person, but then realized that was wrong also. All I can say is don't knock it until you try it.

I am not knocking it, I am just pointing out that it is not relevant. There are great people on both sides of this issue, there are some not so great people on both sides of the issue.

If a person loves to make airplanes and does a great job of it is the issue.

I really did not mean for this to go in the direction it did. I guess what I wanted to convey was that I was impressed with the CC operation and they seem like nice people to me. The rest has to be up to our individual interpretation.....Soaringhiggy and Supercubber, I agree with you, the important thing is that we have choices of companies to build, rebuild and supply parts for our airplanes. What does not seem right is that you guys on the west side of the country seem to have more than your fair share of companies that cater to our type of planes. What is that all about?
