Cubs, Maules, and BBQ

I have had a few people tell me they really enjoyed this video, so I figured I would share it. Strangely I slapped it together fairly hastily for my buddy that we took out there. Hope you enjoy :)

I actually did it with an RC helicopter. It is my smaller portable unit that fits nicely in the cub. It doesn't stablize very well, but if it isn't windy then it does ok I guess.

Re: Cubs, Maules, and BBQ

Hi Patrick,

What mount are you using for the exterior Gopro on the Carbon Cub? How about for the tail shots on the Maule?

What is your setup for the interior shots from the Carbon Cub? You must be using a filter because there does not seem to be any prop artifacts.

Thanks for another good video.

Re: Cubs, Maules, and BBQ

Great video!

May I ask the specs on the RC helicopter and camera config? I would like to add that angel into some video here.

Thank you.

I've seen his plane - he uses the gopro roll-bar mounts with a bit of silicon rubber on the jury strut.

Sorry, I was poking around your hangar talking to one of your mates about his beautiful stinson -3. I'm moving my cub in across the way. See ya 'round.

No worries. If you see the hangar even remotely open stop by. We cook out a lot and ill show you where the keg is...

I do use the roll bar mount on the tail of the maule, but mostly utilize the handle bar mount from go pro. I use tubing to dampen the vibration and shim the mount/protect the paint. The filter is a neutral density filter that is somewhat rigged on to the lens, but seems to work. the darker the better for prop artifact.

I really like your video style. The time laps, the on board then jump to a ground shot as landing. The night shots are great and the hele is sweet! All in all looks like a pro. Keep it up. I know it is time consuming.

Bitchen airplanes too. Go Maule!

Thanks..Rob

Sorry must have missed this. The video here was taken with a hobby unit and what I would consider a decent starter bird. You will wreck a bunch if you don't already know how to fly them. The DJI NAZA products do okay for starters and they are kinda of stable enough to hang a camera on if it is calm. This unit here is what I can fit in the cub so I still use it. This was taken with a Gopro 3 and the Link below is taken with a go pro 2. I think I had about 20 hours before slinging my camera underneath and I wrecked more times than I can count. Now I think I have well over 60-80 hours with the platforms and still sometimes lose situational awareness (not saying that to be a dorky pilot, it just is a total brain shutdown). There really arent too many ready to fly options that I think are that great and sifting through info is staggering; feel free to PM if you want additional info.
