There is a road that goes up in to the hills on the south side of Mt Rushmore. Was it hwy 87? You can take a big loop drive. The highlight of that loop was a place called something like "the eye of the needle" ( or similar ) then you drive through the tightest tunnel I've ever seen in my life. Cars only, no campers.

I just looked that up - Needles Highway Tunnel. It looks really cool.

We've got friends near Spearfish so I've been watching all the suggestions in this thread in case we get a chance to go visit and do some sightseeing. There's been some great discussion, thanks!
