Customs Sticker? 3+ Months wait.

If you need a customs sticker on your airplane you'd better get to it, there is currently a 3+ month wait. I'd recommend printing out your receipt and carrying that with you in the meantime.

Only to someone in the government do these two statements seem perfectly normal together.

You can conduct trans-border flights without physically possessing the decal - just enter the decal number on APIS notices. Confirm by phoning the customs office at the airport of entry you intend to use when returning to the U.S. I think you're required to phone them anyway.

Have fun and don't let government stress compromise safe aviating.

We just did this last summer, no decal but had the number and everyone was happy.
More complicated to get back home then it is to spend some time in Canada.

I can also confirm, placed order December 9, 2018, received an email saying fulfillment was complete on March 5, 2019, decal arrived in the mail a few days later.

Re: Customs Sticker? 3+ Months wait.

Does the number change each year with the new sticker?

I'm also waiting for my new one. No email yet.

I also plan to fly through CA this summer, but don't have a date yet. Is the sticker good for a specific date or a period of time? Perhaps I should apply now even if I'm not sure when I'll be passing through...

You don't actually need the sticker or to have even applied. It says right on the website that you can purchase one at the border crossing.

I've done this with three planes that I've ferried up. Each time I was told, "ehhh, we don't have the forms, just buy the sticker when you get back home."

What's the decal look like? I'll have some printed and sell them in the BCP store.

True, you don't need the sticker on the plane, at least i have never had CBP ever look at it, though there is a place when filing eAPIS that requires the number that is on it. FWIW, i knew a guy that used the number from the sticker that was several years out of date, that still worked on eAPIS.

Bottom line, I would not change a trip based on the lack of a sticked, as tradecraft stated, at worst i have been told to get one online when i get home

Thanks for this. It’s a big deal that I didn’t know about. Do you mention when you call ahead that you’ll have pay at the crossing or just let it all play out once you get there?

In the decal # field of the EAPIS form I just type Pending. It hasn’t rejected the submission so far.

Re: Customs Sticker? 3+ Months wait.

Ordered my sticker on 12/26, got an email the afternoon of 3/22 that the order was being processed. Only issue is that I had already left the morning of the 22nd for Florida, and am heading to the Cayman Islands this weekend. E apis was accepted with my 2018 sticker number and I have the email receipt for ordering the 2019 sticker. I'm hoping that they will let me back in the country with that in a couple of weeks. Lol.

I'll take two. Oh, and a short stack of $100.00 bills, while the printer is warmed up.
