David Clark X11
Avionics, airplane covers, tires, handheld radios, GPS receivers, wireless Wx uplink...any product related to backcountry aircraft and flying.
I rarely post, like to read this site. Sometimes though you come across a product so bad you just have to tell someone, or everyone- There seems to be a major ongoing problem with the David Clark X11 headsets, the company is "having vendor issues" with the headsets but is still selling the defective headsets. When you ask what serial # that the new improved production starts without the "vendor issues" they refuse to tell you. But then they say they don't knowingly sell defective headsets. I recommend to stay away from them all together, buy another brand.
Here is a statement from the David Clark Co--The X11 Headset has had some issues...but we haven't redesigned it. We have sold thousands over the past three years and most have performed very well. But we have heard from quite a few customers who have experienced communication difficulties as well...
Some more of there double speak from a higher up- Mr. Mark Gardner Director of sales- As to the issues that Mr Degnan alluded to, we are always looking to improve on our products, as would any manufacturer. For example, we did make improvements in the audio fidelity of the X11 headset. Although the prior performance was deemed appropriate, constantly changing technology and components offers us the ability to improve any product in our portfolio.

I tried that particular model out when I was at Oshkosh and was NOT impressed. I ended up buying another Lightspeed product.

I've always bought David Clark headsets based on the service I've received from them, so before buying a Bose, I bought an X11 without ever trying one on. It was one of the worst headsets I had ever used. I sold it within a month.
The best bang for the buck is the H10-13.4 with a Headsets Inc. ANR module.

Chris,
I am a "try it before I buy it" kind of guy. I tried every brand and model of headsets while I was at AirVenture. I went there with the intention of spending the big bucks on the Bose ot the NEW (at the time) David Clark X11, but also had an open mind that I would buy something else if I felt it performed as good for ME. Everyone hears differently so I realize what sounds good for me may not be good for someone else. I remember I was NOT impressed with the DC X11, actually I was quite disappointed that a well known company would charge so much for such an inferior headset.
After trying all of them I finally decided that for the money the best set for me was the Lightspeed G3 series. The Bose may have been ever so slightly better but I really couldn't see it for double the price. Granted the ZULU was also a good set and this is what I may get when I upgrade. I ended up getting two Lightspeed headsets for less than I would have paid for the Bose. I have been extremely satisfied with their customer service also. I had an issue with a slight discrepency in the mike and the rep. gladly gave me another....no questions asked. He also gave me a couple spare mike covers so I could adjust the gain on the mike to my liking.

For me the weight was the main factor, I think most headsets use pretty much the same tech. (Well except whatever tech, David Clark is using that doesn't work) and then second I thought I was buying from a reputable company. Anyone have luck with other lighter headsets?
