Day fly-in Colorado (CO47 Gypsum Creek Ranch) - Sept 22nd

Hey guys,

Some good friends of mine are doing a fly-in at their late friends ranch near Eagle, CO.

https://www.airnav.com/airport/CO47

It is inside Eagle's Class D airspace. I haven't been in there yet personally, but my buddy said you can contact the tower via radio while still on the ground, so it should be pretty easy/laid back to get in/out.

As far as I know this is just a day fly-in, but I'll find out if it's possible to camp out etc.

I was told there will be food (chilli etc.) provided. Looks like a neat spot, should be a fun day!

-I'll report back with more info as I get it, but wanted to get the word out. Thanks, Todd

EDIT for more info: "Just fly in and if in doubt land over at Eagle airport and somebody will fly over or come over in the car and get you"

- One way in landing to the south up the hill and then departures will be the other direction towards the valley downhill

I think I am gonna try to make it. Would definitely like to camp if its allowed.

Hopefully there won't be any SUVs on the runway, this time.

It's a long shot, but I'll try to make this and swing by Leadville on the way back to hit their fly-in and buy cheap(ish) gas.

Re: Day fly-in Colorado (CO47 Gypsum Creek Ranch) - Sept 22n

Thanks Todd for posting this. I was just here last weekend and the airstrip was in great shape. I'm going to try and make it over on Saturday for the fly-in.

At the request of the event organizer and ranch owners, we developed an Airstrip & Airspace Safety Briefing for Gypsum Creek Ranch. This will also allow continued use beyond the fly-in for those who can't make it.

If you plan on flying in, please take a moment to check out the photos and details:

Looks pretty neat. I don’t know if I’ll be able to get out this weekend but I need to hook up with some of you guys now that I’m a Colorado resident.

The Maule now lives at 18V.

A few of us from Del Norte will be there around 9 am. I haven't seen an official time so I hope that is OK.
Safety brief says use Eagle Tower frequency since we will be in their airspace and monitor 122.9. I have one radio so I am hoping they will allow a frequency change as I get close. Same for departure, we will see.

Hi Tom- I've heard 12- noon for the start of the chilli cookoff, but I believe you can arrive anytime. I talked to the EGE tower manager to give him a heads up about the fly-in. He mentioned to just let the controller know you're switching over to local unicom and it should be fine. In the past when I've flown in and it's just me, I usually stay on with EGE.

Just a heads up for those coming from the east. Leadville is offering $4.00/gal 100LL over the weekend due to their fly-in.

Great gathering! Anyone get any pics?

Hosts were awesome and good crowd showed up. Really neat strip and Eagle tower was very helpful getting in and out.
