Question for those of you that have your airplane registered in Delaware with a Delaware corporation.

Have you had the state where your airplane resides try to tell you that state personal property tax is owed?

If so, have you hired an attorney and successfully convinced the state to reconsider?

Each state treats the taxes differently. Sales tax, Use tax, Property tax.
The tax boards computers discover ownership and state of use after purchase.
The seller, the buyer, and often the airport management of aircraft residence are sent letters to help the tax boards.
In some states the airports are mandated to report all aircraft physically based there, once per year.
Some states do not have a tax and some have a very reasonably priced sticker you buy each year.

CA tax board of equalization are the gestapo, that and an asshole FBO owner who assumed I bought and kept an expensive aircraft in CA and pussied out for airport revenue, even though I was passing through ( FOIA thank you very much on my side) I had to sic a rep on them, and they still keep calling me! FU CA! Some FBO people can't mind their own business.
In other words, the State will send you a bill, and it's up to you to defend yourself.

Back when I traded my Beech 18 off to a guy in Kalfornia, he never took it out of my name for awhile, Had a tax bill that just went off of my credit report last year from them!! They must have spent the tax amount on paperwork trying to get me to pay it. Called and explained it a few times and they said OK we'll delte it, never happened so I said screw it!!
