Re: Delle UT?

Have not been out there in a while. The cafe closed but the gas station remains for supplies. Pilots say the runways are always the same because of the ground up highway asphalt is stable and not many weeds grow.

Give us a report if you make it. I think QMDV goes in there sometimes…

Re: Delle UT?

Ok flew in this morning. I would say the strip is in ok condition other than some sage getting pretty tall .a low wing would not have a good day landing here. Maybe a trip with a chain saw is in order. Pump #1 has a long hose and reached both tanks with ease. The gas station is a Tesoro now and the attendant was not sure of the ethanol content in the fuel. So I tested the 91 and there was no trace of ethanol. Image
The mozzarella sticks weren't to bad either.

Re: Delle UT?

It has been a while since landing there. Last time they were out of 91 so I filled up on 85. I had close to 20 gallons of Oregon 92 left in the tanks so it was a good average. You only need the 87 at sea level anyway #-o

What do you use to test for ethanol?

Thanks!

I use this. It tells you the % of ethanol too. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/pages/ps/ ... Tester.php

Re: Delle UT?

Simple ethanol test as follows:
Get an old soda bottle or something similar, add 1 ounce of water to the bottle and mark the water level. Add another ounce and make another mark. Add another 9 ounces and make another mark. Now, empty the bottle and add another ounce of water back in. Fill the bottle with fuel to the top mark (that should be 10 ounces of fuel plus the 1 ounce of water). You should see a clear line between the water and fuel since they don't mix. Close the top and shake gently. Let it sit for maybe a minute. The ethanol in the fuel will partition into the water, so IF there is ethanol in the fuel, the boundary between the water (now with ethanol) and gasoline will end up above the 1-ounce mark. If the boundary is at the second mark, then your fuel has (had, since it is now in the water) 10% ethanol. If the boundary is either above or below the second mark, you can estimate the percentage of ethanol reasonably reliably visually.

I presume the thing from ACS has similar directions for use, but comes with pre-marked divisions.

Cheers,
Greg

Re: Delle UT?

Real easy test. A couple drops of food coloring in a jar. Fill the rest with gas. Shake. If there is ethanol in the fuel it will take on the food coloring, if no ethanol, the food coloring just falls to the bottom of the jar.
