None of them have problems supporting auto tracking, it's purely an economic factor on consumer unlimited usage plans. Their bandwidth usage would launch dramatically if that thing talked everytime it moved.

Had his crash not resulted in a brush fire we would still be looking for him. He took off early Saturday morning for his weekly weekend cool morning fun flight. Sometimes he went West, sometimes North, sometimes East, and sometimes South. <snip>

Phil. Probably about the best justification for one of these that I've read. Of course I'll never crash. Eh? Just reading the posts about dead people here over the last couple of weeks has been depressing. I'll be getting one of these. Thanks for your thoughts.

Re: Delorme inReach Explorer

I did upgrade today. To get 2 minute tracking you have to purchase/upgrade to the Extreme Plan. It's the only one with two minute tracking, costs $79.95 per month with an annual agreement, and is unlimited everything. BTW, once you upgrade to this plan you have to sync the inReach and after go into settings and change the tracking to 2, 5 or whatever minutes you want. Counting on you guys to come find me should something ever happen - God forbid.

Did they say anything about the Enterprise Plans? Strange that they didn't give you that option...

They didn't. I changed plans (per their instructions) by logging into my account, going to Settings then Devices. Enterprise wasn't listed as an option. I'll give them a call and see what I can learn.

Phil ask about the "Delorme 4 Plan" - It is what I have and is an aviation based plan that offers tracking down to one minute and includes some data. $29.95 per month on annual subscription.

Re: Delorme inReach Explorer

Anyone found a way to increase screen brightness? I cannot hardly decipher what's on the screen in daylight.

Barring that, I'm thinking this thing is going to cancelled and back to SPOT. So far, I am NOT impressed with this thing.

Page 2 of the main menu has a "Settings" icon. Click that.
The first option under Settings is "Display"
The third option under Display is "Brightness"

IIRC mine was set to 50% out of the box and I immediately boosted it to 100%. I haven't noticed it being hard to read since then, so maybe yours is set for 50% also.

Yeah, the factory setting is ideal for submarines. ;-)

While we're talking about factory settings: Another one I changed was the number of track points it kept in internal memory. I think it defaults to every 10 minutes, but you can set it much lower. Basically, one of the purposes of the device is as a safety device, so they ship it to be as low a battery suck as possible by default. For our usage, bright screens and more tracking points (can be synced with their website) are a fine trade off for six days of battery instead of eight.
