desperately need some wheels

hello all, i will have a pair of 31" Alaskan Bushwheels within 48 hours but they are not mounted. i am looking for a pair of rims that will fit my brakes. Currently i am running a factory stock 8.5x6 rim with the goodyears on a 2004 M-7 with spring gear. can anyone help out. i don't want there to be any issue with the brake and the disc size. thanks Peter

I have a spareset of nearly new Cleveland wheel's with 8.00's on them. You are welcome to them but you'll have to ask about sizing as theyare off of my 180. I'm committed to work right now so you'll need to come get them at GNG.

If you're not scarin' yourself, you're not scarin' the crowd!

Peter.

I think you need some wheels from 6:00x6 tires. I went through that when I got 31's. The wider wheels let the bushwheel tires rotate on the wheels. They need to be pinched on the sides with the skinny wheels.

I'm in eastern Ohio and have several sets old wheels, not sure about your brakes matching up. I think they are not Clevelands, but what ever older Cessna's and citabria's used. Most are for 1 1/2 inch axles.

I'd gladly ship them your way, if you can't find closer ones. Let me know.

good luck,
John

ps: are you taking any plywood or boards to put under the 31's?

Peter, This would be too much work probably, but I have a set of Whitaker tandem gear. That might give more flotation??? john

Peter. Another thing you'll need is either 1 1/2 inch i.d. spacers, or a pile of 1 1/2 i.d. washers. I'm pretty sure your axle will be too long for the skinney wheels to tighten up the axle nut and bearings.

Glad to read you got some wheels locally.

I just put my 31's on the new wheels that came with the kit for my double pucks, so I have the cleavlands that came off my M-5. They would work perfect on the tires, but I'm not sure about the spring gear? You're welcome to buy or borrow them. They're at KBMC right now, but I may be in Moab next week and could bring them down if that helps.

Disclaimer: I don't know diddly about Bushwheels, but I thought the following was potentially safety-related, and therefore worth mentioning.

I've never flown anything with Bushwheels myself, but I've always heard that the extra spin-up resistance (inertia) on landing can come as a surprise to the uninitiated, especially on pavement. I'm sure dozens of people on this site have much better knowledge of this, and Peter is probably talking with them already. I was just thinking how much it would suck to get his plane off the ground, only to encounter trouble getting it back onto the ground.

Is this true, or am I totally off base here? Wup??

Anyway, sounds like the hands-down best excuse a guy could need for buying big rubber. Have fun :D

I have found that the "spool up" with the 31's is a non-issue in my opinion. Yes, you can tell they are there, but nothing to be concerned about. I wouldn't worry, just enjoy.

Yep, no big deal. In fact, in gusty winds I prefer the big footprint. It allows you to "stick" the plane on and hold it better.

Peter, My spare wheels are 1 1/4 axles. A friend on this site (halfast) may have a spare set for a c-180 I will call him in the am, but will check with wup first to see if that would work for you.I agree with MTV. You can definitely feel the difference in the "spool up", and it is a good feeling :) If you prefer wheel landings the resistance makes them almost automatic.

,I prefer landing in gusty , or pretty much any situation with b-wheels. It's a different feeling, but not something that should be a challenge....

Rob's wheels (Utah Maule) with his SINGLE PUCK disks would be perfect!! As said already the "Spool up" is not to be worried about it is there but not an issue..

Hello all, everything is moving amazingly in the correct direction. I have found a set rims that have the same part number as my factory stock M-setup of 8.5x6 goodyears on the standard 600x6 rims. tomorrow i will pickup the 31" bushwheels from UPS willcall and mount them on the rims i have secured(in the hanger).
Its funny because just typing this is making me physically emotional in the tear ducts
all is well and i can't say enough about how amazing the aviation community can pull together for there General Aviation brothers. it is a group of folks that makes one proud to be an American pilot.
I can't wait until one of my best friends is sleeping at home in his empty hanger! I am having serious trouble sleeping and the instant i wake up my mind is on by bird. i have never felt anything like this!, but i guess i now know how it feels to have a best friend or a child that is in trouble and you can't talk to them.
I will keep in touch with all new and appriecate everyones help. Peter

low rider: just to ease your pain, i am borrowing a pair of 31' ABW that will be used for one take off and one landing that will cost me over $200 in UPS shipping cost round trip. Thats one take off and one landing i wish i did not have to do. My wife is far from ok with this but it must done. Trust me don't land somewhere too soft unless is it an emergency. Peter

motorcity. That is just a little more then owning a pair cost me for the paved landings I got out of them before they wore out!

Adding in all the grass, dirt, and gravel landings, the price per landing went down considerably.
