Did any of you go to this?

Hey, this looks like a fly-in not to miss:

Looks like a great fly-in. Maybe they should call it the "stand around and watch high speed low passes fly-in" though. What's up with that?

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

I noticed that when at JC or Moose Creek, when anybody taxied for take off, everbody came out to watch and listen to the great sound of airplane noise.

Also fun to be a volunteer landing judge.

Zane, "what's up with that", that's called pilot entertainment! As far as I am concerned, the more, the marrier. John

ps: And Tim, thanks, I got the nose fork.

I love watching takeoffs and landings. I never understood the need for a high speed low pass over a tightly parked field though besides "hey look at me."

The hair stands up on the back up my neck at the thought of significant pattern airspeed disparity. Yeah yeah, I'm a big pussy. I scare easily. I was beaten as a child and flinch at loud noises while turning my back to the final approach. :P

Just good ole boy's having fun. No, I didn't make it, but it's on my list for next year.
The fly-by's maybe came from military airshows? You were expected to do something on arrival and departure from them. Best airshow demos I've ever seen were the practices before the show, you can push it then.

I love fly-bys,

Must have done a thousand of them myself....especially when I owned the Pitts and Skybolt. Nothing like the sound of an IO-540 pumping out 260 h.p. and cooking along at near 200 mph.

Fly-bys give one the chance to see an airplane up close and personal in a cruise or higher speed attitude.

Yeah...it is a bit of "look at me". But I also enjoy "looking at you".

Enjoy the freedow while we can!

Bob :)

They used to say there are no old bold pilots, hell, looka here........

Gliders doing a low, hi-speed pass are pretty cool too. It's amazing how much air noise from a slick fuselage you can hear when there's no engine to drown it out. Unfortuantely, glider high speed passes are much rarer than those done by power planes.

Buzz jobs, low flying,a Cabela's jet, or the UPS freight plane turning base over my house...they all bring me out to look! I can hear a radial for miles and it always causes me to look!
Why do I look? Maybe it is someone I know...maybe it's a plane I haven't seen before or in a while...maybe someone is getting my attention to go do some fllying...but I always look up. Can't help myself!
Sometimes I will drop what I am doing and drive the 6 miles to the airport just to take a look at what I thought I saw fly over.
Grassstrippilot's quote is what it is all about......you have been up there and you know what it is all about.
I don't care if it is a J-3 Cub, a Cessna, a Sterman, or an F-18. When it goes by, I will look.

I'm exactly the same way!! I think the coolest buzz jobs I've seen have been down in the California desert by military jets! I've only seen a few but man, that's really cool.

Best buzz job I've ever seen: SR 71 going vertical over my house in Lancaster, Ca in the 1970's. They used to take off from Edwards do a touch-n-go at Palmdale then turn and go to places north.

A good time was had by one and all.

This was my first time to Reklaw.

The weather was great, the food EXCELLENT, and the people were very friendly. The band that played with dinner Saturday was good and the beer flowed freely. I met lots of great folks and only had to travel from one state to the north for it so that helped until the fuel $$ drop some more.

One fun part was watching a guy fly a little bitty elec. (no noise) R/C plane around over the crowd and into and out of the hanger where the dinner was, looked like a Texas sized mosquito.

Over (edited) 400 planes, mostly interesting tail wheel stuff, of all sorts to look at. I would say that cubs dominated in number followed by 180's and a plethera of others then there was the get there fast stuff. Nothing organized, a few groups made lunch fly-outs to other spots. We just rubbernecked at the flight line and from a golf cart. Most of the low passes were kind of an after departure salute but a few just made one buzz after another and unfortunately one banana make making a low pass pretty looks pretty much looks like all the rest of them doing it, funny the most watched and pointed at were the SLOW passees

went to Dave Mason's ranch & had a great time as always. Must have been 20+ j-3's, an an-2, waco's, reliants, stearman, maules, super-cubs, 120's,140's,170's,180's,195's-just about everything that flies.
475 planes and no accidents. as good as it gets.
