Don't we all wish for this deal

Montana county sheriff's office purchases Super Cub
The Valley County Sheriff's Office in Montana purchased a Piper PA18 Super Cub airplane. The general aviation aircraft was offered through a government surplus program for $2,500. "When you've got a county with over 5,000 square miles in it, it's a pretty great thing to have," said Sheriff Glen Meier. Billings Gazette (Mont.) (5/1

Re: Don't we all wish for this deal

Customs and Border Protection surplused all their Super Cubs. They have to be offered first to other law enforcement agencies, and there's a specific order in which agencies can line up. If no agencies want them, they can then be sold to the HIGHEST bidder. Lately, those govt. airplane auctions have sold for a lot of $$$.

Surplus aircraft CAN BE a pretty good deal. In this case, I'd say they got a REAL good deal. All those cubs were fairly recently upgraded and renovated.

Good on the sheriffs dept.
