Donation drive for Showers at Garden Valley, ID

The approvals have been given! Its been a long time coming, and the EPA has reversed an earlier requirement for the placement of the drain field, so now we are set to start in on the facilities at Garden Valley. The following is a letter from Jim Davies, President of the Idaho Aviation Association and President of the Idaho Aviation Foundation. If we can get our ducks in a row, we should have the facilities operational for the upcoming season.

For those that are unfamiliar with Garden Valley, it is a State of Idaho operated strip, irrigated, campground, next to a river, and State provided courtesy car. This will give us another spot to stop at to have a hot shower and flush toilets other than Johnson Creek with closer access to strips farther south in Idaho.

I can try to answer questions you may have.

Proposed Shower Facility at Garden Valley Airport

DONATIONS NEEDED

After several years of negotiations, priority fluctuations, and regulation interpretation, the IAA and Idaho Division of Aeronautics have finally entered into an informal partnership to build a bathroom and shower facility at U88, the Garden Valley Airport. Thanks to the efforts of the Division of Aeronautics, the necessary approvals for drain fields, building permits and design review have been accomplished.

The state will provide the required drainage system, the plumbing/fixtures, and electrical wiring/fixtures for the 24x24 foot building with a 24x24 foot covered open area on the end. The design was donated by IAA member Dave Rauscher.

The IAA, with the assistance of the Idaho Aviation Foundation, is to provide building materials and skilled labor to construct the facility. WE NEED YOUR HELP…………….

The project will be managed by IAA member and licensed contractor Steve Burak. Steve’s business, ABC Siding, is generously providing siding and roofing at cost.

We are soliciting financial or material donations from the users who will most directly benefit from this improvement. The donations will give us the ability to hire and/or buy what is needed to complete the project. You can make tax deductible donations to the Idaho Aviation Foundation, a 501c-3 corporation. Donations are tax deductible per IRS rules.

Please do what you can to support this effort. It will directly benefit the many fly-ins and individual campers who use Garden Valley but it will also provide some relief from transient visitors to places like Johnson Creek. If the necessary materials can be acquired quickly, this building could possibly be ready for use this spring. It’s up to all of us!

Please visit the IAF web site at http://www.idahoaviationfoundation.org to make donations or mail directly to

Little Gal (can't remember her name but very pretty) has the keys -$5.00 bucks a day + .20 cents a mile -Red Chevy pickup near shed --Showers will be welcome addition to cold river water. I stayed at Garden Valley last 2 years camping . Great airstrip with lots of good things around.Closest Fuel is Cascade or Emmit,ID. I especially like the shooting range across the road, everthing from 22's to 50 cal. --- Forest Service helicopters at other end . No cell phone service for t-mobil but that's in "town" Wifi at coffee /sandwich shop to reconnect to the world.

Garden Valley doesn't have a website per se, but the IAA website has some photos at one fly-in at least under Activities. http://www.flyidaho.org/album_frame.asp?menuID=42~42

The 180/185 club has a fly-in every year at Garden Valley and if you look at the Fly-Ins you can find at least a couple of albums at Garden Valley.

As I said, the strip is irrigated so generally pretty green. There are some fire pits and potable water already there and nice grass to pitch your tent on. The caretaker is not full-time, and she has another business to attend to, but if you can let her know in advance, she'll make sure she can make arrangements for signing out the car/pickup.... There is a rifle range across the highway, an easy walk if you're so inclined. You'll need your own weapons targets and ammo - unattended, but a donation box. Some hiking in the area - but can get warm in the afternoon in late summer. Good floating on the Payette.

I believe that "Ammie" she runs a hamburger joint on highway past "town" -good chow . She works at Airstrip part time as the care taker watering, cutting grass ,keeping everything together . Great Gal with Harley and a little truck. There's a phone number on green shed for her cell .

Under stress. Buetifull day to fly and I have to take care of my wife recovering from getting a new knee. They got that new knee installed in less time than it takes to change oil and filter in my plane.

4K each then.
