As far as deformities with spraying,,
The man that started the business where I am in the 50's is still kicking around here with one head. :P He says hes not planning on dying anytime soon at 86
I wonder if people realize we typically put out about a soda size quantity of chemical on an entire acre. I think most people think that that everything thats coming out of the plane is 100 perc chemical... Its mostly water.
And yes also the chemicals are much safer than before. I love the guys that complain about it while smoking a cigarette.. thats my favorite. :)
I could use a couple extra heads tho. Maybe Id quit spraying the wrong fields then. :D

This. ^^^^

When we quit farming in the early 90's the insecticide of choice for the onions was Ammo. It went on at 5oz per acre if I remember right. That is virtually untraceable in 5 gal/acre of water which was the total volume of liquid coming out of the spray rig.

Also, organic really meant "sprayed at night". Not sure if this still holds true.

Re: Duster Pilot....

gb, I take it the first field in that clip brought back memories  . It was a pheromone app for the bees / pollination (seed onions)

Also, we do quite a bit of organic work. Mostly at night :D but it's all legit.
As someone pointed out, most insecticides we use down here are pyrethroids, which of course all start out as organic compounds. Most get altered out of the realm of 'organic', but many are specifically designed and labeled for organic use. It is funny to see the same active ingredient used on both organic and non organic apps.

What is not so funny is the amount of sterilization and caution that goes in to prepping the equipment.

Take care, Rob
