E.I. Wire Connectors with allen setscrew

As of a couple years ago, Electronics International ( E.I.) was using a setscrew style of wire connector like the picture below, instead of a crimp and heat shrink butt connector, or similar. Apparently they decided that they are easier to visually inspect and less susceptible to trapping moisture and experiencing corrosion.

This is a cautionary tale to owners that when the transducer ground wire loosens and falls out of these setscrew connectors, you may see your oil pressure swinging pretty erratically. Other wires and instrumentation would be equally susceptible. If you don't have the miniature metric allen wrench in your tool bag, you might want to add it. You might also want to check the tightness of those little setscrews the next time the cowl is off.

I've never liked any of the E.I. connector solutions. I'm a loyal customer, but this is their biggest weak point. I have had similar issues with these kinds of gremlins around E.I.

I got those with my fuel flow block, didn't use them, soldered and heatshrinked instead.

Try a dab of Loctite 222. - 222 will allow you to remove the screw when needed.

It is better to be late in this world, than early in the next.

They require an inordinate amount of coordination to install, but they work well.

I've had no problems so far. Works better than the old connectors.

Agreed... right up until they don't.

Haha, yeah had some wild readings on the CGR-30P before. It was the oil pressure first that did it, was reading up to something crazy like 2600psi and at idle power on landing went to zero, shut it down when had the field made just in case.

Tightened everything up and all good. I am a fan of these connections after having used them now.

Tom actually installed it on the cub so it was his fault [emoji12]
