Yep, it migrated back "home" to Alaska. It's back in Fairbanks and getting flown a lot...as it should be. That plane was flown from Wichita to Alaska new by the fellow I bought it from....you knew him, I'd bet: Graham Mower.

I was glad to see it go back to AK.

Yep knew Graham well. Flew him out a lot adjusting aircraft accidents. He was a real stickler on wx had me turn around several times. He would say " my nickel my plane turnaround" His son (step son I think) worked for me on Lake Hood.

The plane was bought new by Merle Smith (Mudhole Smith to many) owner of Cordova Airways. Graham was his Chief Pilot at the time, and went to Wichita to pick up the new 170. When Smitty converted to 180s, Graham bought the 170 from the airline.

When I bought the plane from Graham, he was rapidly losing his sight. His wife, Mary Nell, was devastated by selling the plane....she was a lot more troubled by it than Mower was. Graham lived for several more years.

I was the plane's caretaker for 20 years, and I like to think it was in better condition when I sold it than when I bought it.

I saw it at least once a week while I was up there. I saw it several times with Nathan at Chena Marina. Still looks well loved.

The gent who owns it now is a retired and high time helicopter pilot. Nice guy. He wasn't fixed wing rated when he bought it....

Re: Early 206 Questions....

I have a '66 206. It had the smaller tail surfaces. I replaced them with stab and elevators from a 70's G model. Approved in Anchorage via a "one time" stc. Trim cables and actuator horn replaced I recall. 207 surfaces will work as well. Bigger tails are better. Early 206's fly so much nicer that the G models.
