Re: Economy

If your worried about the price it might be time to look for other things to do. If you love to fly like I do and a lot of others on this forum then price is no object. Its what we love. I have been flying for over 30 years and hope to fly for another 30. Its not about the speed but what to do when you get there and what other adventure lays ahead. If your looking for speed then get a jet. Enjoy the slow and low level flight. I fly a Stinson and the only time for power is taking off or climbing.. Just my 2 cents..

Be careful with the Husky / Carbon Cub propaganda. They are similar HP pushing the same wing and similar fuselage through the air. They both have a 'stock' zeroed thrustline, vs. a cubs -2°, so they should get just a shade better economy, but outside of that, the only reason they get better economy on paper is because of their configurations during certification ie: little tires, covered gear, cruise prop... make them apple to apple and economy will be virtually identical to any other cub.

I have to disagree. I have flown a lot with super cubs in my CC cub and the carbon cub is faster or more econmical even when both are configured pretty close (big tires climb prop) .
I think its a couple things all working together. The cowling has less drag, the gear legs are covered, its quite a bit lighter when hauling the same load, and i think the biggest thing at least at say 80-90 mph indicated is the electronic ignition. As near as i can tell a big tired climb propped CC cub will indicate in the 80-90 range on 5-6 gal per hour ( at 6000') where a super cub set up the same will use around 8.

Re: Economy

:D although you have to fly your CC cub around 1000000 miles to make up the purchase cost in fuel savings :x
