Edo floats on an MX7?

Saw these floats listed on Barnstormers yesterday, complete with Maule rigging:

https://www.barnstormers.com/classified ... gging.html

When looking on Edo’s site, I only see floats for an M4. Are they suitable for other models? There seems to be a pretty short list of floats out there for us.

Re: Edo floats on an MX7?

2440s were approved on the M-5, but I don’t see any approvals for the 7 on the Maule TC.

Good luck. Those are great floats, but very few approvals for them.

Re: Edo floats on an MX7?

I fly the 2440's on my M6, they seem to perform well, I have flown with a few long time float guys who were very impressed with the performance as well. (I have the O-540 so that probably helps).

Edo floats on an MX7?

I read through the TCDS as MTV suggested, and there are some interesting combos out there with these floats. The only “real” difference between my MX7 and the M6 is the engine. Heck, they’re all pretty similar, wing length not withstanding. Guess I need to figure out who to sweet talk...

How are those floats approved on the M-6? I didn't see them on the TC. Is there an STC out there? I don't know why Maule didn't approve them on the M-6/7, since the EDO 2500 amphibs are approved.

I saw them on p.13 on the TCDS:

http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guida ... Rev_32.pdf

It assumes a 235, though. It’s not on the 180.

Re: Edo floats on an MX7?

Wow, if they were approved I would jump on them. Good 2440's are few and far between. I wonder if there is an STC for those. Maybe a call to Maule would answer some questions.

Oh, yeah....didn’t read the EDO 2500 “OR” part, good catch.

I agree with Kurt, EDO 2440s are great floats, well built and great performers. I’ve flown them on an M-5 some, and they worked great.

According to the TCDS you posted, the MX-7 is approved for the 2440s as well. Ir is yours only 180 hp?

Yes, mine is a 180. I though I saw another 180-type in there on them, but maybe it was a 210. I’ll have to dig I again.

Update: Nope, no 2440sbon any 180 models. Maybe it’s a weight vs HP thing.

Re: Edo floats on an MX7?

Chris, what may confuse is there was an MX7-235 from 1985 through 1993 and it could go on those floats. MX7-180 isn't really enough.
The 210, 220, 235 hp models can use them.

Thanks for the insight, Jeremy. Appreciate the guidance.

You should. Great price, and the Bearhawk and Maule fuselage dimensions are very similar. Bearhawk is a little wider on the bottom longerons where the gear attaches, I believe, so might need to tweak the spreader bars a bit.

I think Rob Taylor is putting 2870s on his. But the 2440s should be fine as well. In the certificated world, these floats bring a 2500 pound plane to 2750 pounds, so it fits right in the Bearhawk's sweet spot.

Is that up-gross available only for the Maule MX7?
Or for any certificated aircraft using Edo 2440 floats?

Thanx, Dave.

It’s model specific. I haven’t seen the MX7-180 on the list for these floats, but yes on MX7-235. MX7-235, M6-235, M7-235 are all 2750lbs on the Maule TCDS on these floats. Some M4 and M5 models get a little bit of an upgrade to gross weight with some modifications.

Other brands you’d probably have to look them up on their type certificate.
