Elevator re-skin

I'm looking for a reputable place to fix a sizable dent on my Stinson 108-1.

I contacted Airframe Components in Indiana, and they don't have a jig for the Stinson.

Any ideas?

Try Easy Street Custom Metal (Jason) at 509.699.9198. He's on the field at Wenatchee's Pangborn Memorial Airport (KEAT). He reskinned both of my C172 flaps 2 years ago and did a great job.

West Coast Wings in Ukiah, CA (KUKI) is a terrific shop. Nick Bishop is the owner/manager. They rebuilt the horizontal stabilizer and elevator on my 1964 182 and improved the flaps.

While I was there, they were building wings for the first twin Beech sold to the public! Also gun camera doors for a WWII bird. They can make anything from either a known good part or from approved blueprints.

As of a couple of years ago, the shop rate was about $100/hr.

Re: Elevator re-skin

There's a few different sources for the corrugated metal skin material used on Cessna control surfaces, don't know if the ones I'm thinking of offer the Stinson material.

Karl Anderson ( aka "call Karl" per his TAP ads) is in the Burlington WA area, near Skagit airport KBVS.
I believe he was among the first to manufacture and sell the Cessna skins.
It's not cheap, nor esp quick, but he also does very nice repair work on wings and control surfaces.

Air Metal Fabricators in Wenatchee WA sells Cessna skins, as does McFarlane.

Univair offers a lot of Stinson tail stuff:

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!

Re: Elevator re-skin

Those skins are not produced new anywhere that I know of. I was working on doing so, but the market is very limited, you get to deal with an ever increasing heavy handed FAA, and it's a bunch of stages to hydropress and heat treat them, so I abandoned that project.
That being said, there are used ones floating around. I know that Univair produces the rudder skins in the same corrugated style as a Cessna...but not sure if they offer elevator skins as well. If you buy from them, you're on your own as far as quality.
It also looks like you're going to need a new spar from what I see. You'll know once you're in there, but from the one picture, it looks like it's damaged.
You might be better off just replacing the whole elevator. I'd try Earl Allen in California...he's most likely got a room full of them for a bunch less than you're going to have into trying to repair this one.

Re: Elevator re-skin

If the price for the repair gets ridiculous PM me & we'll discuss an elevator that comes complete with a 108-1, just needs a Franklin.
