Engine Analyzers

The following is in response to a question asked by a user which is no longer in the database:

I have an Electronics International UBG-16 in my Maule. I'm very happy with it, and the install was fairly straight forward. The guys at EI are a great bunch and very helpful.

The choice of which one of these things to buy can get a little complicated. Both the JPI and EI units have a pretty good reputation for accuracy, with the EI unit having a slower response time from the EGT probes. I haven't found this slower response time to be a real problem when leaning however, and the features I want are all there. The install of the EI analyzer also looked easier to me and this was a factor for me since I did the install myself under my IA's supervision.

The flame wars between JPI and EI are funny to read too, and in the end I thought EI's flames were prettier and more convincing. I do have a JPI fuel flow gauge though; I prefer the dual read out of their unit and the way it operates.
