The mixture cable on my 185 failed. I suspect it was a factory original. The outer coating failed, the spiral wire winding birdcaged, and the liner started to pull through into the cockpit!
I'll be replacing it with McFarlane controls, along with the throttle and cowl flap cables. The prop cable is already a McFarlane brand PMA replacement.
The support that anchors the cable sheath at the engine, bolted to the oil filter housing, is badly worn where it grips the cables. Any repair suggestions? Anybody have the correct part number? My maintenance manual somehow skips my serial number range. I suspect it's a $1000 or more part from Cessna.

$1000 CAD for a used replacement bracket, exchange. There most be someone reconditioning them if they want the core.
http://skywagoncity.com/index.php/engine-accessories/2011/03/180185-throttlemixture-bracket/$2300 USD new!
Any idea what the material spec on something like this should be? I think I could make new forks and hook retainers if I was sure I had a strong and wear resistant material selected correctly.

You can buy the forks (Or just make it) reasonably.
By reading It sounds your bracket assy is ok.
Fork just rivets on.

AK-Hunt. I have a copy of the relevant pages of the parts manual here now, but can only find the retainers listed separate, not the forks. Need another clue!
Do you have part numbers for the individual forks? Are these a PMA part, or Cessna OEM?
Preferred Air Parts has retainers in stock.
