Engine mount chafing.

I have a friend with a 200HP Husky that is down for annual. The mechanic found this:

Anybody else deal with engine mount chafing? Did you have to mail the mount to a repair shop? How did it all work out? This sounds like it's going to be expensive to me.

Re: Engine mount chafing.

It would qualify for a diamond patch as per AC43.13-1B, 4-94, or simply replace the tube (s) affected, provided there isn't something in the manufacturers maintenance manual that states it's heat treated, or some other condition causing it to be a specialized repair. If he wants to spend money, he can send it to a repair shop and it'll look like a new one when it comes home again.

That looks like some deep digging. What was hitting there?

Re: Engine mount chafing.

If wear tolerance is not listed in Aviat's ICA (Instructions for Continued Airworthiness) then ask Aviat Tech Support. Tubes may have different wall thicknesses and thus different damage allowances.

Is the all-metal, self-locking silver nut seen between both wear spots deliberately loosened?

Re: Engine mount chafing.

I think the spec is it can't be more than 10% of the thickness. That looks like it's almost through. Cut it out and weld a new piece.
