Engine roughness mid range
This subforum is meant to organize Skywagon-related topics.
Hi All,
I have a 185 with a io520D in it. I am starting to notice a little shaking/maybe engine roughness when I move the power through 19-21 inch manifold pressure. If I’m in that power setting it will sort of be on and off shaky/rough. It’s pretty minor but I definitely notice it.
I have GAMI injectors and I noticed that if I’m descending/cruise/etc with it *leaned* it doesn’t seem to do it. I had it at 19” entering the pattern and it was smooth then as I enriched the mixture it got shaky/rough.
So maybe it’s just a bit rich in the mid range? Set that way to keep the temps down?
I have an EI monitor but it’s starting to fail. Shuts off, Erroneous indications sometimes, etc but temps seem pretty normal when it’s working well. Maybe my number 5 is a little cooler than my others sometimes but not all? I have gills.
Maybe I need to do a mag check in the air?
Any ideas? Incorrect fuel flow setting? Bad injector? Anything I should look for?
Thanks!!

How are you going to diagnose engine problems with a flaky engine monitor? Seems like that should be first on your list of things to fix. If you get a newer one with a data logger you can go back and look at what happened in much finer detail.

It’s at the top of the list! Just started acting up last week.
