Epic TR: VFR to Russia
Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

In 2017 this dude named Vlad flew his RV-6 VFR from New Jersey to Russia, westbound:

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
On that very timely note:

Gonna be at the meeting tonight. Planning on doing the flight if we have time to get all the paperwork sorted.

Not possible for 2019 but I might be very on board for a 2020 VFR to Russia.
Sounds cool_as_hell.

Hell yeah! Epic trip to AK then on to Russia. I’d love to do that.

I found out about this way too late for this year and now I have other obligations. I hope you can post some details here for those of us who are daydreaming about next year...... I would love to do this!
I'm not getting any younger......

That TR was an amazing read, thanks for bringing it to our attention.
I wish I had the time to do something like that some day.
I was also thinking about how reliable his airplane was for so much flying and not much service\support available to him.
I was also wondering how did he give a progressive trip report like that in remote areas with no interwebs \ cell service.

I've run into more than a few remarkable stories that began with "Some guy named Vlad...", or else knew someone named Vlad with otherwise totally ridiculous, unbelievable stories were it not for the accompanying Kodachrome slides to put doubt to rest.

Due to weather being IFR on the Alaska and Russia sides the group of six airplanes was unable to go. Two weeks later two of the original six got a weather window and made the trip. I haven't heard anything about it. If I do, I'll post it here.

Is anyone considering going on the Alaska Airmen's group trip to Russia this year?
I've put my name on the list for more info.... although I already had other plans for June so I'm still undecided.
They are having a live broadcast on the Alaska Airmen's face book page tonight for more information. 5:30 AK time.

Photobucket ruins another great TR.
Please use the BCP gallery if/when you author trip reports. This was a totally separate website but the point stands.
